Wiper Blades

Posted on 25 July, 2013 at 15:50 Comments comments (150)
"It may surprise you to know that the first windshield wipers invented were operated manually. The driver physically had to move a lever back and forth inside the car. Today, of course, windshield wipers work electronically. Some vehicles (especially SUV types) even have windshield wipers on the rear window as well. Some vehicles even have wipers on the headlights! Wiper blades work like squeegees. A thin rubber strip is attached to the blade arm which is swept across the windshield to wipe away the water. A rubber on new blades is clean and smooth, so that water can be wiped away. As blades age and become warn, the seal against the window lessens due to nicks or cracks in the rubber or from becoming brittle with age. Worn blades can leave streaks on the windshield that interes with driver visibility. It is important to clean the wiper blades to remove and dirt build up. Your vehicles windshiled washer system will help keep the windshield and the wipers clean. Wiping the rubber edge with window cleaner until clean will prolong the blade's life. When you notice any change in visibility due to the wipers performance, replace them with new ones." This will help you to drive safely with all of this rain we have been having lately. When you call us to schedule an appointment for an oil change, let us know your wipers need to be replaced and we can change your wiper blades as well, while you wait!

How your vehicles A/C works!

Posted on 20 June, 2013 at 13:03 Comments comments (63)
"When you turn the A/C on in your vehicle, and the compressor compresses the refrigerant (freon) it raises its temperature. It loses heat as it flows through the condensor (that second radiator looking thing in front of the radiator). It passes through the receiver/dryer where contaminants and moisture are removed, and then on to the expansion valve/accumulator where the refrigerant is slowed down further, causing it to lose pressure and temperature before it gets to the evaporator. The evaporator is like a mini radiator (not to be confused with the heater core - they are two seperate things) inside the dash of your ride that gets cold as it further lowers the refrigerants temperature, and additionally, removes the moisture from the air. The ventilation systems blower motor blows air over the cold evaporator and pushes cool air into the passenger compartment. Complicated, but ahhhhhh is it refreshing!" If your A/C isn't cooling you off, call us today for an appointment and let us help!
